Why do some people think Taco Bell is Mexican food?

Where did they get that from?

And also some restaraunts that claim to serve "Mexican" and they really dont. Its Insulting and It makes me feel bad that so many people are missing out on Real Authentic Mex. Food. Why do some people think Taco Bell is Mexican food?
Who do you know that thinks Taco Bell is authentic Mexican food? You must know some really ignorant people. Even the people I know that like Taco Bell don't think that it's authentic. It's a crappy rendering of Mexican food much like most Chinese food is a crappy rendering of authentic Chinese food. One could say this about any type of national food. Most people know this.

Your question reminds me of when Paul Rodriguez used to do a bit in his stand-up routine when Latino leaders were demanding people boycott Taco Bell over the "yo quiero Taco Bell" ads. They were out saying that all self-respecting Mexicans should stay out of Taco Bell. Mr Rodriguez questioned this asking, "what self-respecting Mexican goes into Taco Bell in the first place?"

The majority of people actually do distinguish between "Mexican" and "Authentic Mexican" even if they've only had one of them. Why do some people think Taco Bell is Mexican food?
cuz they don't know any better but i know its NOT real MEXICAN cuz the REAL MEXICAN food i get is home cooked from my mom. :)
Because, they have some Mexican Dishes...probably fakeWhy do some people think Taco Bell is Mexican food?
yeah, it's a shame that they try to pass off that garbage as authentic mexicine food. when i want the real stuff, i go to El Famous Burritos in Illinois...'ole!
Oh, please don't be offended by it so easily. One could make the same argument that American hamburgers are not as bad as Macdonald's. I think most of us know that Taco Bell is not the absolute epitome of Mexican food.

Did you know chop suey is not a dish that came from China? If you ask for it there, they may not know what you're talking about. It's an American dish. Nor was the pizza we know of made in Italy, but in the US, especially NY if I remember correctly. Why do some people think Taco Bell is Mexican food?
I really dont know, people all think anything thats a taco or burrito is mexican food, it doesnt really make sense to me cuz im sure thats not what authentic mexican food looks or tastes like.
Oh, contraire! How could it not be authentic mexican with the word taco in it's name? It even had a chihuahua as it's spokesperson (yes, chihuahuas are people too) for a time. Hello?!?! CHIHUAHUA is a REAL state in MEXICO.
Tex Mex is better than authentic Mexican food.
you think to much....... Most poeple..... you take a survey?
If you really want to blow there minds order in Spanish. I have really had way to much fun with this. I feel if you want Mexican go to Mexico. if you what Chinese go to china etc....
because they are stupid
Same reason why they think Olive Garden is Italian Food, PF Chang's is Chinese food, etc.
I have no idea. It could be that there are no real mexican food places where they are, so they just don' t know any better.
Were not missing out in Texas there's Mexican restaurant on every corner
tacos are mexican food isn't it...
because they're whities that have never tasted real mexican food before. an enchilada or taco prepared in 30 seconds is not real mexican food people! besides, i read this book called Fast FOod Nation. everything they make at taco bell requires hot water... thats it.

wake up america. taco bell sucks balls.
omg i hate when people do that, and i know its not real mexican.

also like people say chinese take out is chinese, but its not
For the same reason that many Americans think "Bud Lite" is beer, and that Columbus discovered America!

You shouldn't blame people who believe what they are told, humans are trusting creatures.

You won't find too many Texans that think "Taco Bell" is actual Mexican food!
It is mexican food. Its just really bad mexican food.
it all depends on where you are at im from tx so i know what good mexican food is say you go to ohio and ask for tamales they look at you funny even there enchladas and stuff are terrible but they try so there like ooo taco bell is mexican but its not because they dont know what the good stuff is
Because they don't know better. Besides, Americanized quasi Mexican has gotten a lot of exposure so people in America think that they know the real thing, but the moment you actually introduce them to it they are suddenly ousted from their comfort zone and find it hard to believe it is not so. Taco Bell is fine for Americans who don't know any better, not so for Mexicans who consider it a joke. If you were to open a Mexican restaurant catering to prejudiced Americans you would have to end up serving the same hogwash they claim is authentic Mexican, because they don't know the real thing.

And what's with this OLE thing that somehow is always related to Mexico, Mexicans and Mexican food? Thank you Hollywood for offensive and ignorant stereotypes which I personally deplore. Ole is a cry of approval as to how the bullfighter performs during a bullfight. In Mexico we are not inundated with bullrings and bullfights, as a matter of fact there might be one, possibly two in big cities, but please do not apply this ridiculous OLE, which is Spanish from Spain by the way, Mexicans do not use it outside a bullfight, it is not natural to our culture, please when referring to Mexico kindly drop the OLE, the Spanish Guitar, the Spanish Rice, the olive oil, the red bell pepper and the Flamenco dancers, those are from SPAIN in EUROPE. I become convinced daily that National Geographic is doing the right thing with Public Schools in America and doing a great job of increasing GEOGRAPHY education which is sadly lacking.
