What dessert goes with Mexican food?

I am invited to a Mexican dinner on Sunday.....love the food, but what could I bring to go with??What dessert goes with Mexican food?
I can give you some insigth.

We dont usually go for sweets after dinner, unless the family is very americanized. But if you must bring a dessert, consider mild Mexican sweet bread, like conchas or chilindrinas, nothing filled with jelly please, that is breakfast only. Flan is also a favorite but its really something that is home made with milk and caramel, storebougth is just yellow gelatin. The thing that would really go well with your hosts is if you bring dinner bread like bolillos or teleras from an authentic Mexican bakery, the Mex versions of dinner rolls. What dessert goes with Mexican food?

Mexican Chocolate-Raspberry Parfaits

Prep Time:15 min

Start to Finish:15 min

Makes:2 servings

1 1/4 cups light chocolate soymilk

1 box (4-serving size) chocolate instant pudding and pie filling mix

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 slice (4x1 inch) angel food cake, torn into pieces

1/2 cup frozen (thawed) fat-free whipped topping

1/2 cup fresh or frozen (thawed and drained) raspberries

Grated semisweet chocolate, if desired

1. In medium bowl, beat soymilk, pudding mix and cinnamon with wire whisk until mixture is blended and thickened.

2. To assemble, spoon 1/4 cup pudding into each of 2 small parfait glasses or clear drinking glasses. Layer each with half of the cake, 2 tablespoons whipped topping and half of the raspberries. Top each with remaining pudding and whipped topping. Garnish with grated chocolate.

High Altitude (3500-6500 ft): No change.

good luck....
They usually have some sort of custard (flan).

We cook authentic mexican food all the time, and rarely have dessert afterwards. we prefer to make aguas frescas or agua de horchata...those are basically sweetened drinks. We make them from melon or pineapple or orange. Horchata is rice milk mixed with milk, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla.

Breyers makes a really good ice cream right now called "fried ice cream". It is vanilla ice cream with cinnamon and honey mixed in. Very good.

If you really want to make fried ice cream, go for it. If you are trying to be authentic, it won't be authentic. That stuff is made in American restaurants....not in mexico. My husband is mexican and laughed when he heard of fried ice cream as being mexican....although it is SUPER delicious!

If you are visiting a real mexican family, why don't you just bring a nice watermelon, or a bottle of tequila?

If you absolutely have to bring a dessert, why don't you bring a coconut or lemon or coffee or chocolate cream pie? That would go over really well. Nobody would turn that down! What dessert goes with Mexican food?
