Why aren't there any Mexican-American chefs on The Food Network?

The food network frequently features Mexican food, often under the guise of Latin food, but they won't hire any chefs of Mexican descent. They want to profit from Mexican food and culture, but they practice employment discrimination against Mexican chefs. There are many great Mexican chefs out there, and I would like to see at least one on FN.Why aren't there any Mexican-American chefs on The Food Network?
Sounds like you've got an attitude problem. If Mexican/American chefs are like you, then we don't need one on FN. I'd rather go out to eat Mexican anyway. Hope you will have a better day tomorrow. Why aren't there any Mexican-American chefs on The Food Network?
I agree with you completely, Mexican food is one of the most popular food around. Let Food network know what you want to see.
they have arron sanchez but he doesnt have a showWhy aren't there any Mexican-American chefs on The Food Network?
They used to have Two Hot Tamales. They have Daisy Martinez and Ingrid Hoffmann. So, I really don't think they're discriminating against anyone. If you want to see it, you have to let someone know.
I think Ingrid Hoffman is Cuban, but not sure. Daisy I don't know either. I've lost both of them since they were moved off the Saturday lineup.

Maybe none of the great chefs out there want to be on TV. :) I have seen several latin chefs competing on Chopped and Iron Chef - but they probably make more money in their restaurants and such. And having a tv show kind of owns a person. Why aren't there any Mexican-American chefs on The Food Network?
Daisy Martinez is Puerto Rican. I think it's sad that the guy who does Mexican food on T.V. (good though he is) is a white guy - Rick Bayless.
you are so right when we want to see mexican cooking we just invite a sister or mom to see it done so we just shouldnt watch food network as a people to see the ratings drop and then they would know those sons of a gun
I think that whenever a chef has a certain specialization in cooking, he/she is expected to adhere to their country's culinary traditions. In order to make authentic Mexican food certian ingredients and preparations cannot be overlooked, however, the average tv viewer wants something quick easy and cheap. They aren't looking to go out and buy mexican oregano or learn about epazote or fry their own chips to make chilaquiles, or make tortillas, or tamales, or any of the authentic mexican dishes that take more than 30 min preparation. Therefore, I think that a show centered around Mexican food would be difficult to produce when taking into account who's watching it. ALSO mexican food is usually pretty high in fat. All the best stuff is cooked in lots of oil...salsas, refried beans, flautas, chalupas. It's pretty fantastic stuff, but if you've noticed, the food network seems to be all about being healthy these days. I think that Paula Dean is the only one who's still allowed to heap cream and butter into everything. I think that tv producers might be worried that a tv show on Mexican food would not be successfull due to the health factor. And then you can argue that they could make the dishes healthier, but then they wouldnt be authentic...For this reason, i think that many chefs use certian mexican flavor profiles, but dont delve completely into what a mexican chef would prepare.

hey dont get me wrong, i loooove Mexican food and I would love to watch a Mexican Chef or even someone like Rick Bayless prepare authentic dishes, but i'm not sure the country is ready for such culinary greatness to come out of the kitchen! The best things take a bit of preparation.
