Most food that passes as authentic Mexican food is actually food that has been prepared for the American palate. If you want authentic ethnic food you either have to go to Mexico or go to a Hispanic area that caters to transplanted people from Mexico. What is real athentic Mexican Food?

I live in the Midwest as well, and let me tell you authentic ain't here. I love to visit LA just to get the good stuff...
Here's what's NOT authentic:

Tacos in hard shells, burritos the size of a football, anything on Taco Bell's menu, anything covered in cheese (or cheese sauce), guacamole that is the consistency of baby food, and refried beans.
Pupusas
Authentic mexican food is where you get sick the next day after you eat it.
wow

Midwest How long

and when every one reports

how do you know the BEST mex dish

WAS not a french trained Irish Italian gourmet chef in a Chinese resort in Mexico in the 1800's

Foolishness
joecool's girl, Pupusas are not mexican, what wrong with you!!!!!

Anyways, if you want mexican food, it just has to be done in a mexican ran resutraunt, doesn't matter who cooks it, just that they have the mexican recipe, and products, and spices.....
