Who knows the BEST hole in the wall resturants/food stands near the Mexican Border (San Diego Area)?

Looking to take my wife this weekend to as close to the mexican border (San Diego Area) to get some REAL mexican food, like you see in TJ or Enseneda. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Mexican or Seafood without breaking the bank :-)Who knows the BEST hole in the wall resturants/food stands near the Mexican Border (San Diego Area)?
well, if your looking for cheap, good eats on both sides of the border (san ysidro entry) then make a right on the palm ave exit off 805 south and go down about a block and on your right is a terrific Mexican restaurant called "El Ranchero" they serve mouth watering Barbacoa, carne asada, pollo asada, tiny grilled tacos like in T.J. and much more including fresh fruit icees made with shaved ice called "Raspados".

on the T.J. side of the Border theres a little Taco stand just off of "avenida Revolucion" called...Believe it or not: "Taco Bell", only this "Taco Bell" has nothing to do with the stateside franchise, they serve these terrific little tacos in an open air grilling stand , they are served on a warm corn tortilla and come with fresh guacamole, salsa, onions and cilantro- they also grill fresh green onions and peppers to eat on the side YUM! (just a good conscience warning: Mexico is not the safest place to visit, especially T.J., go there only if you want to experience the Hustle, Bustle, Pollution and Crime of a true third world country... unless your a Savvy traveler and speak some Spanish, stay in San Diego, theres PLENTY to do and it's a LOT safer ;-) Who knows the BEST hole in the wall resturants/food stands near the Mexican Border (San Diego Area)?

If you're up for a drive try Mount Signal Cafe (1958), 1201 West Highway 98, Calexico, 760-357-1379. This historic and unique place was started by a woman who was a bullfighter and bullfighting memorabilia adorns every wall.



A truly amazing place - expect to be stared at and don't expect to order in English!
