When eating out and calling it Mexican food is that racist?

most stores put it under Latino food, and not all latin food is the same. That's like calling Chinese food Asian food. When eating out and calling it Mexican food is that racist?
I live in the Los Angeles area and the population here is mostly Hispanic, and grocery stores here seem to use the term "international foods" for their aisle that has Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Salvadoran, and food from other cuisines in it. That's in grocery stores, however; restaurants all specifically call themselves by the type of cuisine they specialize in.

For the record, there are also a number of grocery chains here that feature predominantly Hispanic foods; Fiesta Foods is one of them. I enjoy shopping at them, because you can get some wonderful things and try some foods you've never had before. I had my first chile/lime popsicle from Fiesta Foods, and it was an interesting combination of sweet and spicy, a little too hot for me, but I'm glad I tried it. The produce in these stores is also excellent, and the prices are cheaper than the regular supermarkets. When eating out and calling it Mexican food is that racist?
Not if it's Mexican food, which is different than Guatemalan food, which is different than Salvadoran food, etc. I've never experienced "Latino" or "Asian" food in a store but then I live in an immigrant epicenter where we know the difference between udon, chow mein and pad thai. Perhaps the manager of your local supermarket just isn't very sophisticated.
No it is not racist since the term Mexican is an ethnicity, not a race.(Mexico's racial population is 60%Mixed(White %26amp; American Indian),30% American Indian,9%White,1% Black). The term Latin or Latino is used in the U.S.A to refer to all people(regardless of race)of Latin America who speak a Romance Latin language(Spanish,Portuguese or French). When eating out and calling it Mexican food is that racist?
I think in a restaurant you can still do "Mexican". Lot's of them still use it in the name or their establishment. Same with Chinese, Thai, Indian, German, Italian and other specialty eating places.
how is calling it mexican food racist? mexican is not a racist word i hope you know. people come from mexico. they put it under latino food so they dont have to make signs for every latin country that they have food from. asian food would be correct tooWhen eating out and calling it Mexican food is that racist?
No. There are regional differences between the foods and they are grouped by country. For example, paella and tapas are Spanish grub.

Now if you're going to call it be*ner food, that would be racist.
it depends on the resaraunt. if it's labeled as a mexican restaraunt, or dominican restaraunt, etc, then no it's not racist.
absolutely not. taco bell calls it mexican food.
the one i go to is called "La Parrilla mexican restaurant."
Taco Bell is not authentic.
No, I don't think it is.
